{"id":812,"date":"2023-12-12T10:01:04","date_gmt":"2023-12-12T10:01:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.recclum.wascal.org\/?p=812"},"modified":"2024-03-20T09:39:12","modified_gmt":"2024-03-20T09:39:12","slug":"project-objective","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.recclum.wascal.org\/fr\/2023\/12\/12\/project-objective\/","title":{"rendered":"Project Objectives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The awareness of growing climate impacts on land use and management is one of the reasons why the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.diplomatie.gouv.fr\/en\/french-foreign-policy\/climate-and-environment\/the-fight-against-climate-change\/2015-paris-climate-conference-cop21\/#:~:text=The%20COP%2021%20or%20the,on%20Climate%20Change%20(IPCC).\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paris climate change agreement \u2013endorsed at COP 21 in 2015<\/a>\u2013 put into motion the development of a task force to generate recommendations for integrated approaches to avert, minimize, and address displacement driven by climate change. One of the areas of action is agriculture, a matter of central interest to The Gambia, a schematic map of which is seen in Figure 1. Land types are divided into three categories in the Gambia:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>freehold land: individuals own the land outright<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>customary tenure: the \u201cAlkalo\u201d is the regulator of the property<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>leasehold land: temporary land user (land owned by the Government of The Gambia)<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"915\" height=\"486\" src=\"https:\/\/www.recclum.wascal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-813\" style=\"width:652px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.recclum.wascal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image.png 915w, https:\/\/www.recclum.wascal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image-780x414.png 780w, https:\/\/www.recclum.wascal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image-768x408.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 915px) 100vw, 915px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Figure 1- Schematic map of The Gambia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There is a need to better understand their connections. Consistent with this background, the overall objective of the project is: \u201cto investigate and generate empirical data that may provide new knowledge and support to policy formulation on climate change and land use management in The Gambia\u201d.<br>The specific objectives of the feasibility study are:<br><strong class=\"obj\">Specific Objective 1<\/strong> Provide new data on the interactions between climate change and land use management in The Gambia.<br><strong class=\"obj\">Specific Objective 2<\/strong> Investigate the tools to formulate a new land use policy of The Gambia.<br><strong class=\"obj\">Specific Objective 3<\/strong> Support efforts to enhance the demarcation of land boundaries in The<br>Gambia.<br><strong class=\"obj\">Specific Objective 4<\/strong> To enable&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.utg.edu.gm\/\">UTG<\/a>&nbsp;develop a new degree curriculum on land use management as it relates to climate change.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The awareness of growing climate impacts on land use and management is one of the reasons why the&nbsp;Paris climate change agreement \u2013endorsed at COP 21 in 2015\u2013 put into motion the development of a task force to generate recommendations for integrated approaches to avert, minimize, and address displacement driven by climate change.
